A Light Turned On

So last night I must have recieved the best news of my life. Or some of the best news.

Sam who is 14 and knows everything, yes hard to believe the older I get the stupider I am to my son. I remember though there was a time I thought my parents were older then dirt, dumber then rocks and just flat out didn't know a thing about life. Now I'm the parent who is older then dirt, (all though younger then most of his friend's parents), I'm dumber then a rock because I have a teenager that eats my brain, and hey what do I know about life. Ok, getting back on track...

Sam started a puppy love romance at the end of the school year last year. While the girl he liked was ok and she seemed sweet enough, she didn't seem like she liked my son as much as he liked her. Anyhow far be it from to point this out to him because to him it sounds like "Sam, Maddie, blah, blah, blah" and "Blah, blah, blah, Maddie" so why bother?

Well then summer break came, Sam went on vacation for 6 weeks (you know sometimes divorce can be a good thing), Scout Camp came, Maddie went away to camp, then Football started. Are you starting to see a trend here? They HAD NO TIME for each other... as much as I tried not to do the party dance in my seat so he wouldn't be mad at me (a mad teenager is hormonal attitude w/2 legs and impossible to deal with), but them not seeing each other was a blessing in disguise. Then school started and the 'weirdness' set in.

You know that weirdness where you are supposed to be going with each other but haven't seen or talked to each other so it's better to avoid. Well apparently MY SON ( said with lots of pride) finally got wise and unbeknownst to me he broke up with Maddie. Uttering the words of the death, "Let's just be friends." I know guys hate that line but so don't girls.

Now how did I learn about this you ask, I'm getting there. Last night Sam was talking to me about going to Homecoming and as I was bracing myself he wanted to ask Maddie he goes, I'm going to ask Breezy (that is seriously her name) to Homecoming. Shock, confusion and a stick of lighten just slapped me. I asked in my confusion "Breezy"? He goes yeah I'm going to ask her just gotta think of cute way. (Translation, another way for you to spend your money and reaffirm why you work so hard)

I then cautiously asked "What about Maddie? Won't she be mad?" My son casually says "Oh I broke up with her a few days ago." At that moment the heavens parted, light shown down on him and the angels sang. I'm not kidding!!!! It was that kind of moment. Again surpressing my need to dance like a lunatic and scream YES YES YES YES, I asked him calmly why. He said it was just stuff. He wanted to talk about homecoming.

So yes a light turned on, prayers have been answered, there is a God and his sense of humor may not be understandable at times but this is the one time I dropped to my knees and uttered whole hearted thanks.

Have a great day... and for those of you who don't have teens just wait it's coming...
